TaylorSwift‘s latest album, Folklore, remained at No. 1 for a second consecutive week. though it fell 84% in album-equivalent units after opening with 846,000 units; the best opening week for any album in 2020.
No other new album entered the top 10 this week, but Beyoncé‘s, The Lion King: The Gift re-enters the chart with 27,000 equivalent units and landed at No. 10.
Taylor Swift topped both the Billboard 200 album chart and the Hot 100 singles chart after her latest album, Folklore, moved nearly 900,000 album-equivalent units last week and the first single, “Cardigan,” debuted No. 1 on the respective charts.
This is the eighth time in her career – and first time since 2015 – that Swift has held the No. 1 position on both charts simultaneously.
Taylor Swift released a surprise new album, Folklore, at midnight Friday (July 24), the singer’s eighth album. She announced the release Thursday (July 23) on her Twitter feed and the standard edition of the album, which she “poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into” will contain 16 tracks. Swift noted that since this is her eighth studio album, she will release eight deluxe CDs and eight deluxe vinyls for one week, each containing unique covers and photos.

Health organizations and governments around the world have strongly discouraged large public gatherings for an undetermined period of time. With many events throughout the world already cancelled, and upon direction from health officials in an effort to keep fans safe and help prevent the spread of COVID-19, sadly the decision has been made to cancel all Taylor Swift live appearances and performances this year. The U.S. and Brazil shows will be rescheduled to take place in 2021, with dates to be announced later this year,”
In other tour news, Against Me canceled its co-headlining tour with Baroness. The tour was scheduled to take place in May and follows the band’s previous announcement of the cancelation of its spring tour.
“I hope that it’s apparent that this is absolutely not at all what any of us want, and if we had any real choice in the matter we would for sure be out on the road this May,” frontwoman Laura Jane Grace said in a statement. “But given the current worldwide situation, we have no other choice but to cancel this amazing tour that we have all been looking forward to since its conception. My definite hope is that this tour does still happen at some point in the future, when able.”
The previously-announced One World COVID-19 charity special has announced a new group of artists who have committed to the event, including Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift, Usher, and Jennifer Lopez.
Also added to the lineup are Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Pharrell Williams, Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o, AmyPoehler and Awkwafina.
Also announced was a six-hour livestream prior to the event, which will featureAdam Lambert, Andra Day, Annie Lennox, Ben Platt, Billy Ray Cyrus, CharliePuth, Christine and the Queens, Common, DonCheadle, EllieGoulding, HeidiKlum, Hozier, JackBlack, JameelaJamil, JenniferHudson, JessieJ, Kesha, LadyAntebellum, LeslieOdomJr., LiamPayne, MarenMorris, MattBomer, MeganRapinoe, NiallHoran, RitaOra, Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sheryl Crow, the Killers, TimGunn, and others.
The event has already raised $35 in conjunction with Global Citizen, with proceeds to be distributed to the World Health Organization.
London, England’s BST Hyde Park 2020 concert series scheduled for July 3 to 5 and July 10 to 12 have been canceled, with organizers saying in a Twitter post “It is with a heavy heart that we have decided not to go ahead with BST Hyde Park 2020. Post Malone,Pearl Jam, Taylor Swift, Little Mix, Rita Ora, Kendrick Lamar, the Pixies, Kesha, Brittany Howard, and James Blake are among the artists who were scheduled to appear.
The 50th anniversary of the Glastonbury festival, scheduled to take place June 24 to 28, was canceled by event organizers after they said that they would not be able to get the event ready in time, even if the situation in the UK improved.
“Clearly this was not a course of action we hoped to take for our 50th anniversary event, but following the new government measures announced this week – and in times of such unprecedented uncertainty – this is now our only viable option,” festival organizers said in a statement.
Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift were scheduled to headline the festival, alongside Diana Ross, Thom Yorke, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar, Dizzee Rascal, Pet Shop Boys, and Haim.
