Metallica to play Encore Drive-In concert

Metallica will play its first concert of 2020, August 29, a one-night performance that will air exclusively at drive-in theatres. The band will perform in an empty theatre but the show will be broadcast to drive-in theatres in the United States and Canada. 

“As many of you know, we’ve not played together in quite some time — actually since the ‘S&M2′ concerts last September,” drummer Lars Ulrich, said in a video posted on Twitter and Instagram. “But that’s all changing now as we’re gearing up to record a live show especially for you, just for you.”

Andrew McMahon, Adam Lambert in News Notes

Andrew McMahon will be the first performer in a new concert series curated by Nederlander Concerts. The Drive-In OC at the City National Grove of Anaheim in Anaheim, California. The series will include both film and live music performance, July 10 and 11. Tickets for the show are $350 per car for the first row and $200 per car for general admission. Each vehicle can bring between five and seven passengers… 

Fountains of Wayne singer Adam Schlesinger will be the subject of a posthumous 31-track tribute album, Saving for a Custom Van, which is available exclusively on Bandcamp. Schlesinger died at age 52, April 1, from complications of COVID-19. Ted LeoNada SurfSarah Silverman, and Rachel Bloom, are among the contributors. Disney working on Lionel Richie biopic

Disney studios is working with Lionel Richie to develop a movie musical based on his song catalog. The film is tentatively titled All Night Long (after his 1983 hit.) The movie is expected to incorporate some of his greatest hits. 

Richie reportedly pitched the idea to the studio and is a producer on the film, which is expected to align more with Abba‘s Mamma Mia, rather than biopic-oriented films like Rocketman or Bohemian Rhapsody

Primavera Sound, INXS in News Notes

Though the 20th anniversary 2020 concert was never officially postponed or canceled, festival organizers announced the 2021 lineup. The festival is still scheduled to hold its inaugural sister festival in Los Angeles, California, September 12. No lineup for that festival has yet been announced…

Roger Waters to release 2017 concert film

In 2017, former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters hit the road for 156 shows and, to celebrate those shows, he will release Roger Waters: US + Them, digitally, June 16.

The 135-minute film is constructed from shows filmed in Amsterdam and the U.K. and focuses heavily on tracks from classic Pink Floyd albums The Dark Side of the MoonWish You Were Here, and The Wall. The digital version of the film will include “Comfortably Numb” and “Smell the Roses.” DVD and Blu-ray release dates have yet to be announced. 

Water’s 2020 This Is Not a Drill tour was slated to kick off in July but has been postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus outbreak. New dates have not yet been announced.
