BTS, Miley Cyrus to play iHeartRadio Festival

BTSMiley CyrusColdplay, and Migos, are among the artists who will perform at September’s iHeartRadio festival. Those artists and others such as Keith UrbanKhalidKane BrownThomas Rhett, and Usher will tape performances September 18 and 19 in Los Angeles, California, and Nashville, Tennessee and those performances will be broadcast September 27 and 28 on the CW with Ryan Seacrest hosting.

“We do have a theater — the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles — which will be completely scrubbed and cleaned with no audience,”  iHeartMedia president of entertainment enterprises John Sykes said. “We’ll put a Zoom suite of fans in there so the artists can look out and see, but they won’t really be there. And we’ll have a production team outside the facility remotely in a parking lot and the artists will have the venue to themselves for an entire day. They’ll be able to rehearse, plug in and play live, we’ll have video effects and sound.”

Los Lobos to perform on Hardly Strictly Bluegrass livestream

Los Lobos will make its first post-pandemic appearance on the Hardly, Strictly Bluegrass livestream Saturday (July 25) at 7 p.m. 

The band will perform and sit for a Q&A during the event and will discuss the band’s four appearances at the festival, from 2007 to 2018. 

The livestream will air on the festival’s website as well a YouTube, Twitch, and Nugs.TV.

Serbia’s EXIT festival has canceled its 20th-anniversary event due to a spike in the coronavirus pandemic. The festival, scheduled from August 13 to 16, will be rescheduled for 2021; however, no new dates were announced at press time…

The Rolling Stones will rerelease their 1973 LP Goats Head Soup as a deluxe box set which will include a stereo mix of the album, outtakes, rarities, an entire show from the accompanying tour, and three previously-unreleased songs from the period, including one which features guitar work by Led Zeppelin‘s Jimmy Page

Police in Los Angeles, California have arrested five men in connection with the murder of rapper Pop Smoke,  February 19. LAPD Detectives arrested three adult males and two juvenile males in the killing. The police will provide further details when they become available… 

The Newport Folk Festival will livestream a virtual event July 31 to August 2 after cancellation of the live event. Folk on Revival Weekend will kick off July 31 with Mavis 80, a birthday celebration for Mavis Staples filmed live in May 2019, and featuring Jason IsbellBrandi Carlie, and others. The 2020 Los Dells festival, scheduled to take place at the Wisconsin Dells, has been canceled. A date for what would have been the fourth edition of the festival, which normally takes place during Labor Day weekend. “Following direction of government and health officials, as the situation continues to evolve, we have concluded that we cannot move forward with our event this year,” organizers said in a statement released via social media…

Additional festival cancellations announced

Asbury Park, New Jersey’s Sea. Hear. Now. festival, scheduled for September 18 and 19 has been rescheduled for 2021. In making the announcement, organizers wrote “While we are disappointed to share this news, the health and safety of our fans, artists, partners, staff and the Asbury Park community remains our top priority. Our gratitude goes out to the fans who were looking forward to joining us on the beach this year, and we thank you all for your understanding and patience while we made this difficult, but necessary decision.” Headliners Pearl Jam and the Avett Brothers are among those who will appear at the 2021 fest. 

San Francisco, California’s Outside Lands festival has been canceled for 2020, but the 2021 festival has confirmed Tame Impala, the Strokes, and Lizzo as headliners and Beach HouseVampire Weekend, The 1975J Balvin, and others will also appear.

Bonnaroo, which was postponed from June to Septemberhas been canceled for 2020. Tickets can be rolled over to the 2021 festival. Bonnaroo will hold a virtual festival from September 21 to 24. The virtual event will feature “some of our favorite moments from past and present, along with some special surprises.”

Andrew McMahon, Adam Lambert in News Notes

Andrew McMahon will be the first performer in a new concert series curated by Nederlander Concerts. The Drive-In OC at the City National Grove of Anaheim in Anaheim, California. The series will include both film and live music performance, July 10 and 11. Tickets for the show are $350 per car for the first row and $200 per car for general admission. Each vehicle can bring between five and seven passengers… 

Fountains of Wayne singer Adam Schlesinger will be the subject of a posthumous 31-track tribute album, Saving for a Custom Van, which is available exclusively on Bandcamp. Schlesinger died at age 52, April 1, from complications of COVID-19. Ted LeoNada SurfSarah Silverman, and Rachel Bloom, are among the contributors. Proceeds from the album will go to the MusicCares COVID-19 Relief Fund…
