Best Coast announces virtual anniversary show

Best Coast has announced a virtual 10th-anniversary show in celebration of their debut album. Crazy For You  The streamed event, scheduled for August 14, will feature special guests, interviews, archival footage, and more. 

Members Bethany Consentino and Bobb Bruno filmed a performance of the entire album while in quarantine and will be joined by special guests  Hayley Williams of ParamoreMark Hoppus of Blink-182Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches and others.

Lana Del Rey releases spoken word performance

Lana Del Ray has released a spoken word audiobook of her new poetry collection, Violet Ben Backwards Over the Grass. The project features music from Jack Antonoff. The audiobook consists of 14 poems. The hardcover and ebook versions will be released September 29, with the CDs and LPs October 2. 

Del Ray has a second collection, behind the iron gates, due to be released later this year.

Juice WRLD spend second week at No. 1

Juice WRLD‘s posthumous album, Legends Never Die, holds the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart, despite seeing album equivalent units falling by 67%. 

The Chicks first album in 14 years, Gaslighter, entered the chart at No. 3 and Jhené Aiko’s Chilombo jumped from No. 43 to No. 6. The latter benefited from a deluxe reissue July 17 which added nine tracks.

Katy Perry announced Monday (July 27) that her fifth album, Smile, will be delayed until August 28 due to production delays. The album was expected to be released August 14…

J. Cole releases two songs from forthcoming album

J. Cole has released two new songs — “The Climb Back” and “Lion King on Ice” — from his forthcoming album, The Fall Off. The release of the singles follow last month’s release of “Snow on Tha Bluff.” The disc is a follow-up to his 2018 album, KOD. No release date has been announced for his new album, which the rapper is still finishing. 

Taylor Swift drops new “surprise” album

Taylor Swift released a surprise  new album, Folklore, at midnight Friday (July 24), the singer’s eighth album. She announced the release Thursday (July 23) on her Twitter feed and the standard edition of the album, which she “poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into” will contain 16 tracks. Swift noted that since this is her eighth studio album, she will release eight deluxe CDs and eight deluxe vinyls for one week, each containing unique covers and photos. 

Juice WRLD debuts posthumously at No. 1

Juice Wrld‘s Legends Never Die had a monster debut, moving the equivalent of 497,000 album units, and entering the Billboard 200 albums chart at No. 1. This is Juice WRLD’s second No. 1 album and his first release since his death on December 8, 2019. Juice WRLD’s debut knocks another posthumous release, Pop Smoke‘s Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, from the top spot on the chart. 

No other new release cracked the top 10 this week.

The Replacements will reissue Pleased to Meet Me in a three-disc set, whose tracks will include 29 previously-unreleased songs. The set marks the band’s final recordings with Bob Stinson.

The collection will include demos, rough mixes, and outtakes. The release will be available digitally and as a three-CD/one vinyl LP set with a hardcover book written by Trouble Boys author Bob Mehr
